Electronic Medical Record (eMR) - NSW Health

The Electronic Medical Record (eMR) is a multi-year program to replace the paper medical record with an online record which tracks and details a patient's care during the time spent in hospital. The change to working in a digital environment will take place in a number of manageable phases and will be accompanied by support and training for all clinicians. The eMR will significantly improve the delivery and quality of patient care as well as streamline clinical workflow.

Over the next three years, approximately 84,000 clinicians and scientific staff in up to 188 public hospitals in New South Wales will start using the eMR.

Web Based Training

The provision of an eLearning solution (web-based training) in the eMR project has been identified as an important component in the successful delivery of core application education for clinical staff across 7 Area Health Services (AHS) in NSW. Five WBT modules have been developed:

  • FirstNet (Emergency Department System)
  • Orders
  • PowerChart (Results)
  • Scheduling
  • SurgiNet (Operating Theatre System)

The eMR WBT modules can be accessed via the eMR Intranet and the NSW Health Online Learning site web icon.
