Model of Cardiology Care
These pages outline the model of care required to support the ideal cardiology patient journey. They provide examples of local, national and international best practice care. They present a distilled set of possible solutions for cardiac care, supplemented with experiences from other jurisdictions (national and international) and from the published literature.

State Cardiac Reperfusion Strategy
Models and characterisrics of State Cardiac Reperfusion Strategy:
- About the strategy
- Pre-hospital Assessment for Primary Angioplasty (Stage 1)
- Pre-hospital Assessment and Thrombolysis (Stage 2)
Chest Pain Pathway
The NSW Chest Pain Pathway represents the minimum standard of care for chest pain patients presenting to emergency departments.
Two pathways have been developed and will be implemented according to the ability of the facility to provide primary angioplasty (PCI):
- Chest Pain Pathway - Primary PCI site
- Chest Pain Pathway - Non-primary PCI site
Cardiac Monitoring
Cardiac monitoring is a routine activity which is carried out in hospitals throughout NSW. Over time individual hospitals have developed a range of protocols and standards for cardiac monitoring. This has resulted in variance in practice between hospitals and between Area Health Services. This Policy has been developed using the available evidence to assist clinicians to provide best practice in the management of adult cardiac patients who require cardiac monitoring.
