Surgical Acute Rapid Assessment (SARA) Model of Care
The SARA Model of Care works to support the Emergency Department in its efforts to reduce access block, improve hospital processes and provide high quality of care. The SARA model operates under strict business rules and caters for acute surgical admissions from the Emergency Department, specialist clinics and hospital transfers. It focuses on the beginining of the Emergency Department pathway and successfully facilitates patients to prioritised assessment and early discharge and/or referral for review and/or investigation giving them the shortest stay possible in the Emergency Department.
SARA provides a focal point for emergency surgical admissions, helps to maintain patient focused quality care and reinforces and encourages collegial care and collaborative practices that impact positively on staff reruitment and retention.
