Abstract

In response to identifying a need for better education and professional support for physiotherapists treating children, the Physiotherapy Department of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead (CHW) held a Professional Development Day for physiotherapists from across the State on 27th November 2006.

This inaugural education day comprised of a keynote speech from Roberta Shepherd, a world renowned paediatric physiotherapist, followed by 19 interactive lectures on different clinical areas, presented by a number of Physiotherapists from CHW.

The goals of the day included providing information and education about a range of topics relevant to paediatric physiotherapists working throughout the community. Another goal was to highlight areas of expertise of the physiotherapists at CHW, providing community therapists with key contact people with whom they could seek advice and support from in the future.

This initiative has been a huge success and has now become a regular event.
