Abstract

This paper describes a partnership between Albury Community Health, the Department of Education and Charles Sturt University, known as The Schools Project. The Schools Project involves teams of Speech Pathology students working with selected schools to support children’s communication and language skills in the school context, in order to make communication a core part of school life.

This project has been trialled in urban and rural schools over 2½ years, firmly linking the relationship between communication and learning into the ethos of the participant schools. With 125 speech pathology students having participated so far, this sustainable approach to providing speech pathology service is being learnt by a new generation of speech pathologists.
