Abstract

In relocating the Hospital from Camperdown to Westmead, plans included a playground. Due to restricted funds it did not eventuate, however it always remained a priority for the Hospital.

In early 2005, the Fundraising Department established a relationship with Erica and George Gregan. The Gregans committed to being a partner in funding the playground project. From this, the George Gregan (GG) Foundation was established.

The overall aim was to establish a universal playground and develop appropriate protocols for its use to enhance the Hospital’s mission to improve the health and well-being of patients and families

Design and construction of the playground is the result of significant specialised input from the GG Playground Planning Committee, stakeholders, families and patients. The project was launched in October 2006 and has been a huge success for the Hospital, the George Gregan Foundation and, most importantly, for sick children and their families.
