Abstract
The Rural Clinical Locum Program (RCLP) is an initiative of NSW Health to provide relief for Public Sector Health Professionals in rural and remote locations thereby allowing opportunities for professional development and recreational leave that are often compromised by the lack of adequate leave relief.
Justice Health was successful in obtaining funding to implement and manage this innovative program focusing on supporting public sector dentists over a 4-year period. The high vacancy rate for dentists in rural areas has been well documented. The RCLP has been tailored to allow Rural Area Health Services and Aboriginal Medical Services to utilise this program to meet the needs of rural communities that have had limited access to public dentistry.
