Abstract

Effective policies, procedures and practice guidelines are a key element of a high quality healthcare organisation. In order to use and rely on such documents, staff need to be assured that they are current, evidence-based, reflect best practice, and are authorised by key stakeholders and management. To capture these qualities, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead (CHW) has revolutionised their document management system (DMS).

Since implementation, there has been an outstanding improvement in all processes relating to document development, review and use. The creation of a secure document storage database and intranet improvements have also elevated staffconfidence in using documents. Overwhelmingly, staff are satisfied with the improvements and are comfortable using the new system.
