Abstract
The Ambulance Service of NSW is responsible for provision of acute and critical care inters hospital patient transport by road, helicopter and fixed wing aircraft. An increasing need to transport patients requiring intra aortic balloon counter pulsation from tertiary cardiology units to tertiary cardiothoracic units for urgent surgery resulted in the design, development and implementation of a safe method of transporting patients dependent on the Intra Aortic Balloon Pump.
