Abstract
The Sydney Hospital and Sydney Eye Hospital (SH/SEH) external disaster management plan was revised in line with the currently held all hazards approach to disaster management. The plan addresses identification and timely response to risks and is consistent with the NSW Health Strategic Direction - to be ready for new risks and opportunities.
To validate tactical concepts within the plan and to test the SH/SEH Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) a group of local, district and state level officials identified a series of activities collectively named Convergence 2007.
The project describes the unique role that SH/SEH plays in state wide disaster management due to its location. Lessons learned include the need for executive and clinician input to disaster planning, the importance of inter agency collaboration and the benefits of field exercise to test and refine plans.
