Submission Guidelines

Below are some questions to consider to guide your contribution. ARCHI focuses on providing resources to implement innovation.  Imagine someone wants to implement your project in their workplace. What do they need to know?  What tools can they use?

Where are you?
Describe the setting for the innovation: the type of service, the hospital or health facility that it is based in, the patient load and case mix, any particular characteristics or challenges you have to deal with. This will help others understand the innovation and whether it may be relevant to them.

What was the problem that you were addressing?
Describe the nature of the problem. How did you know it was a problem? Why was it an issue? What were the factors making the problem important enough to require change? Were there internal or external influences or both? What would happen if the problem had not been addressed?

What did you do?
What intervention(s) did you do to address the problem or challenge that you had? How did you carry this out? In particular, how did you deal with the human challenges of trying to implement change? What resources (skills, information, equipment, finance) were required?

What were the results?
Describe your achievements. These could include operational improvements, quality of service, costs, patient/staff satisfaction, etc. How do you know you achieved anything? Do you have any measurements? Also tell us what you did not achieve.

What were the problems in doing this?
Describe the barriers and hurdles you encountered, and how you dealt with them. Even if you could not deal with them, it is important that we know.

Were there any unexpected problems or surprises?
Every project has some 'Oh No...' or 'Aha…' moments where there is an unexpected realisation of the nature of things or systems. Some of these surprises are good, and some are bad. They are all valuable, if only so others can learn about them.

What did you learn?
What did you learn along the way about the problem, the challenge of fixing this problem; the challenge of implementing change generally,  the setting you work in; your colleagues, yourself?  Think of advice specific to your problem as well as more broadly.

What will you do next?
How will you build on your achievements? What further changes do you wish to make to further address the problem you have?
What advice would you give to others approaching a similar problem?

Identification of relevant resources/references
What references did you use to base your innovation on?  This could include a bibliography or list of relevant websites.
Did you develop or use any tools, guidelines, policies, procedures, etc.?

When?
When did your project run?  When is it up for review?
